What a beautiful fight
More bloodied and bruised than ever
I look up at you
You swing for the fences
More red wine please
You walk up slow and kneel next to me
You don't understand my smile
"Don't worry darling, you're bulletproof" you say
I don't understand you
You press the cold barrel into my chest
Where you assume a heart should be
I don't hear it
I barely feel it
The explosion illuminates it all
My eyes fall shut

"Anyone insecure with a black-rather biracial- president, is insecure with the same opportunities presented to them, being available to someone like me. So the election of Barack Obama will trickle down to blacks gaining positions everywhere, the largest door in america is that of the oval office and now a man of african descent will open it"

In Nairobi its 10:49 am
"Negroes - Sweet and docile, Meek, humble, and kind: Beware the day - They change their mind."
Langston Hughes
Langston Hughes
renaissance man.
The name is Theophilus London.
The sound he brings may be as equally foreign as his name.
A merge of his poetic lyricism over thumping club and 80/90's pop beats.
The man himself is not your typical hip hop artist.
When I first met Theo, last year at Kid Cudi's mixtape release party, I met an earnest man that may not have realized the extent of his talent.
He humbly dodged compliments and handed out his mixtape as if you would be doing him a favor to listen to it.
Donning his buddy holly glasses and his black Cavs hat,he would seem to be the most un hip hop in the eyes of today's gangster-bling setting.
Yet as you'll come to see, he is the most hip hop in many ways.
Theophilus London, what brought you to that name? And when did you decide you wanted to be an mc?
What brought me to my name was my dad Moses London. I hated the name growing up. Got teased the whole nine. But being a child of art and how I live on a day to day basis, Theophilus is perfect. "Don't pronounce it wrg" if u do f*!k it. I became an Mc in 2000 - new millennium and I started styuding RAP and Poetry. And made my way in the scene.
Youre original in the way you present yourself and in the way you rap. what rappers inspired you or rather what artists in general?
I studied Jay-z, Eminem, Biggie, Busta Rhymes to name a few rappers. I grew up a huge fan of Michael Jackson, and The Smiths. A lot of soul in my upbringing. But getting in to hip hop was cool. It was a lot of fun and expression in the music. Plus dance is a huge form of hip hop and I love dancing.
The Charming Mixtape project is the follow up to JAM!- your first mixtape -which i still have in heavy rotation by the way. What can we expect from this mixtape?
A lot of melodies and rhythm. A contrast of charming and evil. Great mixtures of the new sounds I hear when I close my eyes. I have an African-Soul-dance vibe in records called Crazy Cousins and Grey X Sage
Plus some real personal work I never thought I would release. This mixtape was inspired by many of my friends and the growth I exp. My whole life. Jam! Was the rhythm to my heart this new and prolly last tape for a while is about my soul. Ohh and yeah first time ever heard I'm def. Dropping a JAM pt 2 in the years to come of us.
What is cool to Theophilus London?
Ummm random Thrift store visits, FRIENDS, to cool dogs named Prince and Free, collecting game hats and mickey mouse toys. That's pretty much it... Ohhh yea and women. They inspire the world.

Snitching.
Al Pacino went in.
I don't cosign snitching.
I cosign honor.
Went to prep school, so I over-stand the sentiments.
In the streets, it holds a different connotation, and although it's often frowned upon. However, in certain cases I do understand that its necessary to speak on the actions of others.
Yet it all comes down to honor.

renaissance man
Rarely is fashion merged with positivity and a sense of consciousness.
Yet coup d'etat brooklyn, has truly bridged this gap.
From the ever popular "teach the babies" tee to the images of Huey p. and Ali, coup d'etat has put an onus on the message.
Daoud Abeid, founder, creative director and a true rennaiscance man with a real positive aura, has decided to bless us with his wisdom and thoughts.
When did you realize fashion was the route you wanted to take?
I have a history with a lot of the people that started the trends in the SoHo scene. From being around Union when it first opened, watching the success of my brothers, Alyasha & Jakuan , knowing the guys from aNYthing, Supreme, SSUR. I was hanging out on the downtown Ny scene before most of those stores were open, in the most part, except for Union. I have relationships with that scene and watched it flourish. I worked at Triple Five in the early stages when it went from Ludlow to Lafayette and it’s like I’ve always socially been around that scene of artists. With me, the brand started, because I got to a point where I wasn’t happy with my options and I saw a lot of T-shirts and things that talked to me artistically and to my style sensibility, as far as color and aesthetic, but the things that were on them did not appeal to the type of person I am. It was kind of a frustration and search to try and find T-shirts that I would be able to wear and feel like they represented me. That’s kind of where the name coup d’etat Brooklyn came from a coup being a change of power from within an established power structure and that’s how the brand started. So far we been doing T's , hoodies, jackets the normal street wear menu, moving forward we are focussing on a more fashion orientated direction, more original pieces, items that will be timeless must haves to add to your wardrobe.
One thing youve managed to do is keep the aesthetic at cdtbk real, never "selling out" to say, what kept you from doing so?
Not selling out is the whole purpose of the brand, it was conceived due to a lack of brands that we felt were not "selling out" or exploiting our culture, so the coup was launched to answer that need, we're all about making statements, positively influencing thought and change, you can't really do that and "sell out" at the same time. our goal is to benefit financially while showing our peers that you can be "cool" or "successful" selling ideas and imagery that we can be proud to represent.
Did you envision the popularity, teach the babies would gain?
Yes, yet i can say that i didnt imagine it would be as popular,so maybe no. The design 1st started as a stencil applied with silver spray paint on a T'shirt, that sample got such a big response that Rasu and i knew we had to figure out a way to mass produce it with a similar effect, and with that thought the foil game was changed forever LOL. Seriously though, Its great to see that people embrace such a necessary sentiment, its gotta happen. If we wanna see things change for the better in out communities we all need to "TEACH THE BABIES" even if just by being a living example of the change you would like to see in them, every bit helps.
Whats next for you, as you are also a director with sushowah films, any projects we should look forward to?
Yes there's allot to look forward to. Movie making is my 1st love, my partner in film making Dahkil and I have a few feature projects that are in development, also our most recent endeavor "Shades of Brooklyn Vol.1" will be airing on HBO starting in feb 09 so you can keep an eye out for that.
As far as coup d'etat Brooklyn is concerned we have allot in store for 09, more art shows, and events, more thought provoking statements, more living to change something and teaching the babies...
Also I'm teaming up for a project with my man Al from The Minority Report to create some fashion events focussing on the style needs of the fashion conscious urban man, so keep ya ear to the streets for that too...
What is cool to Daoud?
Whats cool to me? there a few things, Life, and being happy, i think I'm just now starting to realize how to be happy, not momentary happiness in reaction to an event or a moment in time, but the kind of happiness that stays with you all day regardless of what's going on around you. Great art, i love seeing the work of a thinking artist, who creates with the intent to share and inspire, shout out to G.A.M.E. Rebellion, Livingroom Johnston, Ibrahim El, Concep, Pesu, Lichiban, Rizz22, Fly Lady Di, Spye Design... Dedicated parents, i don't have any kids of my own yet, but i have a few people around me raising kids in a way that i consider cool, they're allowing and inspiring their children to be free individuals, with thoughts and ideas of their own, we need more people like that in the world.. "Live to change something"..PEACE

The world bursts at the seams with people ready to tell you you're not good enough. On occasion, some may be correct. But do not do their work for them. Seek any job; ask anyone out; pursue any goal. Don't take it personally when they say 'no' — they may not be smart enough to say "yes."

If you never left, get a passport..
Namesake
Slumdog Millionaire
India has a culture that is rich and authentic and these two films definitely highlight it, while also broadening the appeal for westerners such as myself.
Namesake is the adaptation of the novel by Jhumpa Lahiri, and unlike most films is one that upholds the beauty of the book.
Slumdog is the movie darling of the year and when you see it you'll realize why.

Baby girl said she was in the mood for somethin real
your kisses gave me inspiration
mine gave you life
and now you choose security
over spontaneity
comfortability
over liberty
look in the mirror
and see the person you promised yourself you'd never be
it was nice knowing you
and though i may see you again
i fear i may never see you again
but my love for you will remain
as pure as the raindrops
and the cake frosting
and the dreams we told to the stars
using the moon for lighting
goodbye. my love.
